Norma Roper -

Norma has served in the financial industry her entire working life. She joined CIBC Paris in 1972 as stenographer and teller and in 1983 transferred to the Ayr branch. She became mutual fund licensed in 1991 and helped her clients with their investment decisions and eventually added loans and mortgages and other bank services to the list.

After 24 years with CIBC she left her position in Ayr as account manager to join Regal Capital Planners (Waterloo) where she set up her own investment planning business in her home office in Ayr. During that time she worked toward and achieved her Certified Planners Designation In 1998. She became insurance licensed in 1998 as well and offers life, disability, critical insurance as well has health benefits for individuals or groups. She became Labour Sponsored Funds licensed in 2000.

She felt the need to develop her exposure to the insurance side and in 1999 moved her license to Ten Star Financial (Waterdown) and continued her financial planning business in Ayr.

Norma achieved the Elder Planning Consultant’s designation in 2004.

Norma’s husband Wayne has been her business partner since 1997 and when he decided to take retirement this year (2008) Norma closed the home office on Hall St. after 12 ½ years and made the move to Ayr Farmers Financial Services with Investment Planning Counsel where she continues to serve her long-time clients and welcomes new clients as well.

Norma is a community minded person and held positions of Treasurer and Secretary of the Ayr Business Improvement Association for a number of years. She sat on the board of directors for Ayr and District Citizens’ Association for 8 years. She also sat on the investment board of the Cambridge and North Dumfries Foundation for 3 years. She was co-founder of the North Dumfries Childrens’ Choir in Ayr. This was open to children in the North Dumfries area from ages 5 to 14 who enjoyed the choral experience.

She is currently a volunteer, organizer and board member of the Fresh Ayr Festival Inc. who annually offers Ayr citizens and surrounding communities a one-day celebration of family fun, games, entertainment, and arts and crafts.

She is coordinator of the Ayr Directory, a local directory that is published annually and includes contact info for local businesses, schools, churches and community and social services available to the community. All proceeds from advertising in this directory is donated back to support the Fresh Ayr Festival.

Norma is passionate about her most recent project as a volunteer for Heather’s Hootenanny for Hope. This is a one-day fund raiser in August that raises awareness and funds for A.L.S. research (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Proceeds support research at the Robarts Centre at London Health Sciences Centre in London Ontario.
